The Most Wonderful Time of the Year….?
Christmas is over and for a lot of people they are happy. One of the more common phrases you hear around this time of the year is “I’m just ready for the holidays to be over.” And to me that is sad.
There are some genuine reasons why people feel this way. Some may have lost loved ones around this time and the memory is too painful. But the majority is something different. The majority of the holiday dread is due to the constant business. We have parties and shopping and decorating and cleaning. It’s hard for people to sit down and just enjoy this time of the year. There is constant pressure to buy gifts for everyone. Gifts that they may or may not want or like. Gifts that will remain unopened and possibly sold in a garage sale.
Andy Williams sings about this being “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. Yet most people are ready for it to be over with. Perhaps we’re doing Christmas wrong. Perhaps we’re doing this whole season wrong. Maybe if we got back to what the holidays should be about (family, friends, Jesus), Maybe we would see it differently. Perhaps we wouldn’t be ready for it to be over with. Instead we would be excited for the season. But, what do I know…..
