A.I.: Is it time embrace this technology?
All this A.I. talk has had me kind of leery. I mean we've all seen the movies. The ones where some machine goes off the rails because artificial intelligence wants to take over. From Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning to Terminator to I Robot. We are fascinated with the idea of artificial intelligence.
And, like the movies, there is always a chance for something to happen. There's always a chance for someone to do something that is out of the ordinary and cause A.I. to be used for bad. And, as I said at the beginning of this post, that's always had me leery. I've always bought into the theory that it's just asking for something bad to happen.
That is until recently. I do sports in the morning on a local radio station. That includes me talking for about two minutes about local sports (high school, college, etc) and about professional stuff. A lot of the professional stuff is available via the Associated Press. I didn't want to read that verbatim so I came up with an idea. I took the parts of the article I wanted to use for my report and pasted it into Chat GPT with the instructions to rewrite it as a sports report for a local radio station. I had to modify it sometimes because it was too long or praised the wrong team. Both were easily correctable as I just asked Chat GPT to make it shorter and/or make it under "x" amount of words.
Today, I realized it was integrated with my work because we use Google. So I was able to ask Gemini to search my emails that came from a certain person over the past two weeks that talked about a certain subject matter. Within a few seconds, it yielded the results.
Why am I saying all of this? First off because I think it's pretty cool that it can do stuff like that. Second, because I think we have to realize this is the direction the world is going. Cell phone companies are starting to incorporate A.I. into the software. Apps are starting to use A.I. for various reasons. There is and will always be a chance that it is used for bad. But, that doesn't mean we all have to do that. I'll leave you with one last piece of A.I. I asked Chat GPT to create an image of a cat catching a pass as a Buffalo Bills player. Here's the result:
